Hello and thanks for stopping! My name is Gary, and I would love to own my own home building business. I’d love to design luxury homes for people, and customize to their preferences. I like a challenge, so I could totally see myself working with blueprints, tweaking on Auto CAD and other software programs, and then seeing the finished product as I hand the client the keys to their dream home. I wanted to write about this dream, and look into what it would take to become a reality.

A few years ago, my wife and I decided to have a home built for our children to grow up in. We had always lived in apartment buildings and we wanted to offer them a nice change of pace. Instead of doing research like we should have, we chose the first great home builder that came our way. He was someone who was recommended to us by a co-worker, so we hired him without giving the decision much thought. This turned out to be one of the biggest mistakes either of us has ever made.

The main problem was the fact that he was not willing to listen to us much when it came to making decisions about the way that we wanted the place to look. Even though he is the expert, we are the ones who saved for so long to have this place built and we wanted to make sure that this was not a financial choice we would live to regret. After battling with him for a few months, we decided to have someone else do the job. This could have all been avoided if we did our homework in the beginning.

There are houses for sale all over, but what happens if you are searching for one and you constantly come up empty? Do you continue searching forever, or do you wise up and decide to have a home built from the ground up? If you decide on the latter, it is important that you choose your contractor wisely.

This is not a random project; you will be roped with this piece of property for the long haul. For this reason, make sure that you hire someone who knows what they are doing. Ask the people you are interested in about their experience. Cross anyone from your list who has not worked on at least 40-50 houses over the course of their career.

It is also important for you to choose someone who has a style you like and is willing to bend a little. Everyone is different when it comes to the kind of homes they build. It is essential that they will have the creativity level it takes to build something you will love. Flexibility will come into play since the person you hire has to be willing to consider your preferences during the process.
